Villa Lali is a fabulous private 8 bedroom villa in the center of Matemwe’s 8km stretch of unspoiled pristine beach.
Rates start from $1780 per night (for 6 people, full board), which makes Villa Lali one of the more expensive beach houses in Zanzibar… but it offers a truly special experience for those lucky enough to stay there!
From hammocks to daybeds there are lots of areas to chill out. There are also many options for socializing, wining an dining.
You can walk for hours on a never ending powder white beach
It's the largest villa in Zanzibar so the best option for large family and friend gatherings.
Awesome venue for a celebration!
It is wonderful to be surrounded by beautiful arts, cratfs and artifacts
The villa is best suited to large groups (although you could just use 1 floor of the villa if you're a smaller group)
The villa is at top end of the budget (but it is a 5 star experience for a good size group!)
Villa Lali comfortably sleeps up to 16 guests, with 2 additional single beds available if needed.
All the suites have air conditioning, king size beds, en suite bathrooms and wonderful views of the garden, pool or sea.
Four of the suites are located on the upper floor and four of the suites are on the ground floor.
Social spaces are plenty with lounges and verandas, dining tables and day beds, both inside and out, upstairs and down.
Co-owned by a well known South African Interior Designer, the villa is beautifully styled and furnished. It feels like an extremely comfortable and relaxed gallery full of contemporary arts and crafts.
With the exception of some exquisite fabrics and linen from India, all the furniture, décor items and art pieces are made by local artisans and crafted from Zanzibari materials such as coconut wood and palm leaves. What you see in other Villas and Hotels, and in the markets, has been elevated to a sophisticated rustic chic style.
Service is attentive but discreet, it’s there when you want it. Before you can say the word, a drink will appear, your room will be made up and a scrumptious meal prepared by the head chef and sous chef will be served by the waitress.
The Gardener maintains the pool and lush tropical gardens and the askari (night watchman) is on duty every night.
With a farm to table approach, Villa Lali serves a wonderful fusion of international and zanzibari flavors; sustainably sourced seafood and seasonal organic veg from local farmers.
You are spoiled for choice in locations to eat; from the beach itself, the deck or the garden to the ground floor terrace or the upstairs patio (breezy for very hot days.) Don’t forget the indoor dining room or the baraza lounge, near the pool, perfect for a cocktail
If you need to refuel you can lie by the huge pool or in a hammock and sway in the breeze. If you’re feeling more active there’s lots to do, from the restorative to the energetic.
