Kilindi Zanzibar

luxury resort villas in kendwa

Get away from it all, in 5 star luxury… at Kilindi Zanzibar! The 15 domed, eastern-styled “pavilions” are scattered across 52 acres of lush tropical gardens, and bordered by a casuarina forest. Each pavilion has 2 wonderfully private plunge pools, as well as domed living and sleeping spaces open to the sea.

Originally designed for Benny Andersson (of Abba fame), Kilindi is a true blend of the very best of diverse cultures. The concept behind Kilindi’s original design was that of Scandinavian minimalism mixed with the dramatic architectural overtones of the Middle East. White wooden-slatted shutters embrace wide-arched open windows that afford spectacular views over the Indian Ocean. This ‘open-to-nature’ approach to Kilindi’s design provides the true essence to any stay at Kilindi Zanzibar.

Kilindi Zanzibar is very well located for diving and snorkeling trips, which generally take place around Mnemba Atoll.

For a more sedate trip, you could board a traditional sailing dhow for a sunset cruise.  Watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean from an African sailing boat while sipping a glass of wine is an experience you’ll never forget!

With its location on Zanzibar’s north western tip, Kilindi is also situated close to some of Africa’s best deep sea fishing grounds.

August to November provides really good sport for the big Yellowfin Tuna, one of the strongest fish around. Big Blue Marlin and a number of Striped and Black Marlin are also found, as well as Sailfish. During this season, multiple hook ups are normal, when the ocean can come alive with huge schools of Tuna in pursuit of smaller fish. During the billfish season, which is from November to March, Striped Marlin are the most prolific, sometimes showing in schools of up to ten. Large Blue and Black Marlin are also quite common during this period.

NB: All ocean activities can be arranged by Kilindi, but are provided by 3rd party suppliers, and are not included in the rate.

With solar power, a state-of-the-art water treatment plant that recycles their waste water for reusage in toilets and gardens, Kilindi seeks to make bold claims about sustainable, responsible resource management.

The pavilions are spread across 52 acres, and a 500m beach front to ensure that the land is used wisely.

Kilindi Zanzibar believes that high-yield/low volume tourism is the only way forward for tourism in developing countries, and that luxury in Africa is not something that can be commodified and branded, it can only be experienced.

Experience is the new luxury, they believe, and theatre is as important a part of the hotel experience as any modern interior!
